HOW I WORK
Each programme is tailor-made to your health issues and lifestyle. I work both independently and alongside medical professionals and I will always refer clients with red flag signs or symptoms.
My approach will include some or all of the following:
- Nutritional support and protocols
- Diagnostic testing
- Genetic testing
- Supplement recommendations
- Complementary & alternative therapy recommendations
My specialty area of expertise is SIBO
SIBO is an overgrowth of bacteria in your small intestine. The majority of good bacteria should reside in the large intestine, but in people with SIBO, it has, for a variety of reasons, overcrowded into the small intestine. The bacteria then feeds off the nutrients from your digested food and can disrupt absorption of the necessary vitamins and minerals as well as damage your gut lining.
It is important to understand the symptoms of SIBO of which there is a huge range:
- Abdominal pain
- Acid reflux
- Alternating constipation and diarrhoea
- Anaemia
- Arthritic pain
- Burping
- Bloating
- Brain fog
- Chronic pancreatitis
- Coeliac disease
- Constipation
- Cramps
- Diarrhoea
- Fatigue and muscle pain (fibromyalgia)
- Fatty, oily or floating stool
- Flatulence
- Food sensitivities including lactose or fructose intolerance
- Headache
- Interstitial cystitis
- Leaky gut
- Nerve pain (due to B12 deficiency)
- Skin rashes including acne rosacea
- Weight loss or weight gain
Please note: Having just one or more of these symptoms does not mean you have SIBO, but it is present in over 70% of IBS cases.
A SIBO breath test will ascertain whether you have SIBO and if so which type of SIBO.
Understanding the underlying cause of SIBO and the risk factors is crucial to prevent it reoccurring. For example, is it from food poisoning, which affects the Motor Migrating Complex function (the housekeeping in your small intestine) – and is common. However, it also could be the result of a number of other contributing factors, such as surgery or medicines. Each person will experience SIBO uniquely because symptoms vary, as do probable causes, and individuals react differently to drivers and triggers.
By determining what type of SIBO you have, we can discuss your options to restore your optimal health. This involves dietary protocols and lifestyle changes, but also a decision on whether you opt for antibiotics, working with a medical doctor, antimicrobials or the elemental diet. Having SIBO is generally not a quick fix; only a third of people with SIBO recover in a short time frame with one round of treatment. For the remaining, it is often a chronic condition and can reoccur unless you put in place a long-term protocol which can successfully eliminate the condition.
